Gaylord Area - January 16, 2008
Good riding continues. We had 12 rooms all out riding last night and through today. Not one complaint. Dan O. and Mark K. from Ann Arbor enjoyed a great ride last night over to Starvation Lake and back. Riders rode in every direction from the motel returning with great reports of their rides. The forecast is looking awesome. Snow, Snow, Snow is in the forecast for the next 7 days! Cold temps will also be staying with us. Arctic cold coming in over the weekend.
Gaylord Area - December 10, 2007
This is a scenic ride north from Gaylord to Indian River. Rolling hillsides, wetlands with meandering streams, snow laden cattails. Tunnels going under the roadways and pine trees lining the trails frosted white. Still all white and plenty of snow on the trails.

We enjoyed a great ride taking trail 4 over to Lakes of North today (Thur Dec 6). Nothing to complain about these trails. Great fun riding. Even the roller coaster hills along Mancelona Road were smooth. (trail 4 to lakenorth dec 6 2007 005) - Photo courtesy of Rays Retreat - Gaylord
Gaylord - December 2, 2007
We spent the day just cleaning up the sidewalks and drive from this heavy snow. I did walk over and get a picture of the trail this afternoon. Snow measures ten inches on the tables. Walking through the snow is a cardiac workout, there's a slight crust on top and its all heavy. 1-3 Inches forecasted for tonight, another 1-3 tomorrow. Riders are heading out on the trails this morning, so we'll have updates on the trail conditions later today. Riders that were out yesterday enjoy fun rides.
Gaylord - November 30, 2007
Its been snowing more today! There is plenty of snow on the trails, and they officially open tomorrow Sat. Dec. 1st. Its time to fire up those machines and enjoy the whtie snow! Mike took a quick ride and came back exhilarated. Trails aren't groomed yet, but its looking promising that grooming could start the first of the week with the forecast.
Gaylord, Michigan Morels - May 11, 2007
Bruce and Rose from Ohio found this nice combo of black and yellows yesterday, May 11. Everyone that stayed with us this weekend returned last night with a nice mess. Enough for a pan or two. Its looking like blacks are fading out and yellows coming in. They reported they had to dig under leaves to find many of the delicious morels.
Gaylord Morels - May 5, 2007
These black morels were found today, May 5 by Tom and Barbie and friends.
Gaylord Area - February 26, 2007
Now that the groomers have had a chance to get over the trails the conditions are good! ... We got 6-8 inches of new snow yesterday/last night. There's an excellent base now. Its a solid packing snow. Should be good riding through the week.

Jordan Valley today, Jan 24 ---- We headed over to the Jordan Valley. All three of us agreed it was a good day on the trail. A few spots that were rough - mostly over east as we got over to Alba. The first few miles as we entered in the south side of the Jordan Valley was extremely rough with deep holes to jar your bones. Once we got into it the trail smoothed out to give us a pretty ride through the woods and river scenery. Jordan Valley is pretty any season of the year.

Friday Jan 19 -- Snow all day today gave us about 5-6 inches and the forecast is for that much tonight.
Gaylord - January 16, 2007
We spent the afternoon out on the trail. Headed out after lunchtime to Starvation Lake where we stopped for a bite to eat. Then onto Lakes of the North and home. We both agree it was a good ride. -- The Blue Bear had been groomed and was alot of fun. There were a few rough spots here and there, but like I said it was a good ride. The roughest spots were right out here along Old 27, Trail 7. -- We have about 6 inches of snow....a trail base of a few inches. Just exactly how do you measure the base? .. its just a guesstimate. There was no spot where we rode today that there wasn't snow or a base.

On trail 4 today, Jan 9 --- We picked up my sled this afternoon and spent two hours out riding. What a blast! Trails still haven't been groomed so there isn't much of a real base, but the trails are completely snow covered.
Gaylord / Frederic - December 7, 2006
Winter arrived in the Gaylord area shortly after 9 am last Friday. This is the first time winter came while I was having coffee with the boys. The streets were bare when I went into the Sugar Bowl and an hour later we had 2-3 inches and the snow plows were out. It came that Fast.

Signature - Rick Smith - Treetops -- September 14, 2006
I personally think Rick had a lot of help with The Signature because the Good Lord gave him a great chunk of land to work with and Mother Nature did her work to put unsurpassed beauty to that land. Rick just had to figure out how to get golf holes to work with the land and still keep the beauty. In this he did a wonderful job. The Signature - Rick Smith Review - Treetops Resort Website

If you love the solitude and beauty of nature, want a little challenge to your game and putting skills you will have to go a long way to find a better course that puts this all in one package. The Signature - Rick Smith Review - Treetops Resort Website
Signature - Rick Smith - Treetops -- September 14, 2006
When you are standing on the tees the fairways give you the impression you can't miss them but, chances are it won't take long to get back to reality. A lot of the fairways are down or up a small valley and a shot a little off line has a good chance to get kicked back to the fairway. Those that don't make it back to the fairway will give you a whole new set of problems. The Signature - Rick Smith Review - Treetops Resort Website
Signature - Rick Smith - Treetops -- September 14, 2006
This course is sloped at 123 from the whites and 140 from the black so that should tell you it is not and easy course. It's challenging but it's also one you will want to play again. The Signature - Rick Smith Review - Treetops Resort Website
The Tribute at the Otsego Club - July 10, 2006
The Tribute is another great addition, added in 2002, to the Gaylord Golf Mecca. This course is built on some of the most scenic land the Sturgeon valley has to offer. You will have views overlooking vast hardwood hills and valleys. The Tribute - Review - The Otsego Club - Website

The Tribute at the Otsego Club - July 10, 2006

The Tribute at the Otsego Club - July 10, 2006
The par fours are a nice mixture of views and challenges. Some play uphill, some downhill. You will face doglegs, marshes, ravines and deep grass. Trees in most cases are not a problem because of the wide fairways. Deep ravines could be. -- The Tribute - Review - The Otsego Club - Website
The Tribute at Otsego Club - July 10, 2006
All in all The Tribute is a fun, challenging course with scenic views you will not find on many courses. Just choose the right tees, bring an extra ball or two and above all just enjoy the scenery you will get on almost every hole. -- The Tribute - Review - The Otsego Club - Website
The Natural - June 5, 2006
The Natural is not a "Grip it and rip it" course you find so often these days. This is a course you had better be thinking about club selection. The Natural makes you use your head and skill more so than just your driver and irons. The Natural - Review - The Natural - Website
The Natural - June 5, 2006
Jerry Matthews designed this course in the rolling hills and wetlands that surround Otsego Lake and they named it The Natural for a very good reason. Your odds of seeing a deer may be better than seeing a "birdie" here. The Natural - Review - The Natural - Website
The Natural - June 5, 2006
The fairways on this course are not all that narrower than those you will find on most courses, it's just that you either have fairway or woods. Of course you have strategically placed sand traps to grab the off line shot. All these nagging little problems and yet you still marvel at the beauty of each hole. The Natural - Review - The Natural - Website
The Natural - June 5, 2006
Yes, there are holes you can pull out the driver and let it rip, but choose your spot and be accurate. More often, a shorter more controllable club will save you a ball or two. The Natural - Review - The Natural - Website
Gaylord Morels - May 6, 2006
These mushrooms were found this afternoon south of Gaylord (along C.R. 38) by Tom and Barbie (from Fremont, IN) --- a combination of greys, blacks and yellows.
May Morels - May 2, 2006
Morels are being found. The blacks are actually slowing down and yellows are being picked. Over this last weekend the yellows that were found were small yet, but our son picked 84 good sized yellow morels last night. YUM.
It is still incredibly dry. We haven't had a decent soaking rain in some time. When the rainfall finds us, it should really bring the mushrooms up in full force.
The trees are bursing out in bloom and green, tulips and daffodils coloring the green lawns. Its a great time to come up north and enjoy mushroom hunting, hiking thru the woods and pre season rates at the golf courses.
Our preseason rates still include breakfast with your room. We hope to see you soon

A great weekend for snowmobiling in Gaylord.
Gaylord / Frederic - January 21, 2006
We picked up around 6 inches or so on Friday night and that brings the total up to around a foot. A 40 percent chance of snow mid-week should set things up for some good riding.
Gaylord / Frederic - January 21, 2006
I think you can see why I like living where I do. No ice on the river tells you it has been warm, but a good 6 inches of snow last night gives us around a foot. Sure glad I got back from warm and sunny Flordia in time to take this shot. Pulling your leg a little there!!!! --- Ken

After a day of freezing rain yesterday the snow started in late yesterday afternoon. Then let up overnight to start in again this morning. It snowed all day today and the trails are covered. There is a good solid frozen base with several inches of heavy wet snow on them.
Gaylord / Frederic - December 28
Hi Folks, -- Mother Nature has did a job on the snow on the table and on the trail's as well. The trails are now snert, dirt and ice. A real disappointment from the start we had. Oh well, we all know you can't fight Mother Nature. We need snow to get back to our winter sports.

Gaylord - December 18, 2005
We enjoyed a 50-mile trip this afternoon. We headed south from our place on Trail 7. Overall, I would rate the trip a 5 (out of ten, with ten being the best) There were many areas that were much better than that ive rating and several that were much worse! There's plenty of snow for riding and as the trails continue to be groomed they should be improving. Take advantage of riding during the week when the trails aren't as busy and you can also take advantage of our mid week discount (Monday thru Thursday).
Gaylord / Waters - December 15, 2005
We did pick a couple inches over night and snow in the forecast the next couple of days. The trails are rideable,
Gaylord / Frederic - December 15, 2005
A couple inches overnight and around 7 inches on the ground. The trails are rideable but not in the best of condition yet. Of course they will be worse the closer you get to town's. Lots of riding can be done, just don't expect to much of the trails and you can have a good time.

Warmer than expected temperatures yesterday (near 50} and it did not get cold last night have put the trails in questionable condition. I went to West Branch yesterday and the heavily used trails around Grayling were in very bad shape. Trails in the woods should hold up but will be soft. Temperatures are to be warm today, Friday, then getting cold tonight. If it does it will save the trails but I and not sure it will save the weekend. Most trails are still snow covered but heavy traffic will turn them to slush. If you come up expect spring like conditions at least until Sat. and with out snow it might be icy. Snow dance is now needed.

This part of the trail could not get any better. Give the groomers a lot of credit getting the trails in shape for the weekend.

Going into the weekend the trail looks very good. There are a few sleds showing up on Thursday to get a jump on the crowd.

Further West of Federic - January 16
Part of trail 679 North and West of Federic. Snow and more snow. I can say that this is the best snow we have had in quite awhile. Including all last year. It just keeps snowing. I have a good foot here at the river, a lot of area's around here have more. I would say you can find good snow from Vanderbuilt to Higgens Lake as long as you stay west of I-75.
West of Federic - January 16
Part of trail #79 5 miles west of Federic

Main Trail S. of Gaylord - January 13
Main trail leaving south out of Gaylord. Since every sled has to use this trail if your going south, it's not bad considering we just got back into winter weather.
Gaylord / Frederic - January 11
Table Cam - Total snow for the last two days is around six inches. The front seat of the table is overnight snow.

A little cold weather brings back the ice and snow to the river.
Gaylord to Frederic trail - January 10
This was taken about 2pm Friday and you can add another 3 inches of overnight snow to it. You can see it doesn't take long for someone to get out riding.
Gaylord / Frederic - January 10
Table cam on 1/10/03 - Three inches + and still snowing. Winter is back and we can only hope it sticks around awhile this time. Over night we picked up over three inches and at times now it is snowing hard and then nothing and back to hard. Over the next few days the forecast is for snow. If we get what is called for just maybe we can get into winter sports.
