Threetops at Treetops Sylvan Resort may be the greatest par three in the good old U.S.A. This is definitely not a walking course. It probably has never been walked, and probably never will be. When you finish this one you will wonder how in the heck (last word cleaned up) they ever got the cart paths to stay in place. Just to ride the cart paths is worth the price they charge. I don't think there is a hole on this course you could call normal. If you don't hit on or close to the greens you won't even want to look for your ball. Just dig out another one and save yourself a lot of work. The greens are large on this course, thank God, because in most cases you have to hit them. Lots of tiers and slop to these greens so putting will be a challenge once you get there. Of course, when isn't putting a challenge? But this course isn't about putting or greens or tees. It's about terrain. Oh, you'll do all the things you do on a normal course. Hit balls, putt, lie about you score. That won't be what you remember about this one. You'll remember the terrain. You'll remember the shots you attempted, or if your lucky, made. You'll even remember the cart paths. I don't know how they got the things in there. They have one hole called " The devil's drop" a 216 yard poke with 145 foot vertical drop. It's so far below you that people on the green look like ants. (Or maybe uncles.) Depending on the wind, you could hit anything from an 8 iron to a wood. If you add on the distance your 8 iron goes into the air, you watch your ball fall almost 300 feet. Now that's a shot we see every day don't we? The first words you hear when you see this hole will be "Oh my God, look at that". My advice on this one is let every one else hit first, by
the time it's your turn you should have club selection
narrowed down. See, there is some advantage to having access
to the web.
The fun part of playing this little nine hole beauty is that you won't have a clue if you used the right club or not until the ball hits the ground. The last and only time the fairways were mowed they used a chain saw to do it. So what you have here is tee, cart path and green. All but one hole is under 150 yards so you would think this should be a piece of cake. Ya, right. The great part of this layout is that you won't even care what your score is on a hole, you just want to get to the next one to see what surprise they have in store for you. And you will not be disappointed. Try it, you will like it. Ken Downtown Motel
