Arts Academy Jazz Ensemble presents A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald – Interlochen Arts Festival – May 5, 2017

Join us for “A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald” featuring Carmen Bradford, Gary Motley and the Interlochen Arts Academy Jazz Ensemble and Combo in honor of the Ella Fitzgerald Centennial Celebration.

Carmen Bradford
Born in Austin, Texas and raised in Altadena, California, Carmen Bradford grew up with music in her home and in her heart. It was only natural that Carmen would follow in the footsteps of her great family legacy, being the daughter of legendary trumpeter/ composer Bobby Bradford and world renowned vocalist/composer Melba Joyce. Her grandfather Melvin Moore sang with Lucky Millender and Dizzy Gillespie’s Big Band in the 1940’s, and sang with the Ink Spots, making Carmen the third generation of incredible musicians. She has carved out a place in music history for herself and is playing an integral role in this uniquely American art form called jazz. Carmen Bradford is Jazz Royalty.

Gary Motley
Gary Motley is a jazz pianist and composer. He is best known for his captivating performances, classic yet current sound, and popularity in the southeastern United States jazz music scene. Motley has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Great American Jazz Piano Competition and the American Composers Forum (ACF). Featured on NPR’s Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland, his notable performances also include the premiere of his first orchestral work “The Artist and the Visionary,” duo performances with pianists Dave Brubeck and Kenny Barron, and concerts with Jon Faddis, Eddie Daniels, Benny Golson and others. Motley’s selection by the ACF as an artist-in-residence led to his second composition for string orchestra and jazz trio “The Resolution of a Dream.” He premiered his “Highland Summit: A Suite for String Quartet and Jazz Quartet” with the Vega String Quartet at the Highlands Chamber Music Festival and later performed his “Suite Odyssey” with the ensemble at Carnegie Hall. In 2010, Motley premiered a composition based on a work by Toni Morrison at the Toni Morrison Society’s 6th Biennial Conference in Paris. Recent travels include performances and workshops in South America and Cuba. Cited by his home state for his artistic and educational achievements, Gary was inducted into the Alabama jazz Hall of Fame in 2015.

Chippewa Hotel – Michigan Craft Beer Weekend – May 6 – 7, 2016

Join Us For Our 2nd Annual Michigan Craft Beer Opening Weekend!

Well, it’s time to start making your plans to see it for yourself because Opening Weekend is coming soon! An expression we have on Mackinac Island is that history repeats itself again and again. And true to form, history will repeat itself at the Chippewa, the Pink Pony and our sister hotel, the Lilac Tree Suites & Spa because we’re celebrating again with our 2nd Annual Michigan Craft Beer Opening Weekend.

“We had a great turn out last year with very positive feedback from our guests. We guarantee that you’ll have a fantastic time and it’s a great way to bring in the 2016 Mackinac Island season in style!”

-Brian Bailey, General Manager.

How’s this for a fantastic itinerary?

The fun begins on Friday night, May 6th from 7:00 PM- 8:00 PM at our Meet and Greet. You’ll enjoy sampling the 2016 draft beers from our 24 draft beer taps that we’ll be offering at The Pink Pony. We’re also serving mouth-watering hors d’oeuvres and light refreshments. And as I wrote in February’s blog, you’ll get to see all of the improvements we’ve made for you at the Chippewa and Pink Pony. All of the flooring at the Pink Pony will be on the same level so it will be one continuous floor that’s made from beautiful Brazilian cherry wood. We’re also putting in brand new high top tables and all new bar stools which makes for an even better, fun-loving atmosphere.

From 8:00 PM- 9:30 PM is our Beer Trivia at the Pink Pony Bar where the questions will put your knowledge of beer to the test. Who says beer doesn’t make you smart?

Then, from 9:30 PM- 1:30 AM we’ll wrap up Friday night with live music with The Pink Pony’s very own Myk Rise as he rocks the stage with your favorite tunes! He’ll be performing right behind the 24 draft beer taps so everyone will have a room with a view!

The fun continues on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00 AM- 11:00 AM. The Pink Pony will host an Education series on Michigan made beer. More “proof” that beer makes you smart! One of my favorite things to do is bike ride miles and miles on Mackinac so here’s your chance, fellow bike lovers. From 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM we’re hosting a Bicycle Scavenger Hunt where you’ll bike ride and scavenger hunt for hidden memorabilia around Mackinac Island and return to the Pink Pony to claim your prize!

From 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, the Michigan Craft Breweries will be showcasing some of their best Beers in the Pink Pony, so pony up! I’ve attended wine pairing dinners, but last year’s beer pairing dinner was my first! History repeats itself again starting at 7:00 PM, with another amazing Beer Pairing Dinner where you will enjoy a full 5-Course dinner. It will be perfectly prepared for you by our Pink Pony Master Chef where all meals will be paired with the perfect selection of Michigan Craft Beers. Trust me, you haven’t lived until you’ve enjoyed beer with your dessert!

From 9:30 PM – 1:00 AM we’ll have another stellar performance by Myk Rise as we wrap up our night and weekend. Let history repeat itself again on Mackinac Island. It’s time to return to your home away from home to join us for our 2nd Annual Michigan Craft Beer Weekend!

We’re taking reservations now so give us a call for Yachts and Yachts of Fun!
