Don’t forget to book your hotel or cabin before they’re all gone!

With the Covid Pandemic still in effect we have made a few modifications to our typical events schedule.

While the Porkies lodge will still be open to warm up and to use the bathrooms, our goal is to encourage folks to socially distance outdoors this year as much as possible. We also strongly encourage face coverings, and frequent hand washing/sanitation
Lets all be safe and have fun!

– No official Friday night party

Saturday February 13
– Ski the hill and backcountry
– 11 AM uphill downhill race
– 2 PM social distanced group photo (6ft apart) top of lift

ABR Ski Trails

We are closing all buildings at ABR: the Ski Shop, Ski Rental room and lunch room, back room and wax barn tonight at 6 PM due to the threat of the “virus”. The Ski Trails and snowshoe trails are still open 9 AM to 6 PM and will be open until Sunday at 6 PM. We will continue to groom as we have been daily. Trail passes are $10 self pay with a check or cash at the unmanned guard shack at the entrance. Maps will be there as well and you can always call the office number. 906-932-3502. We will be working in our home office, monitoring activities from a safe distance. If you have a multiple day pass or punch pass or season pass that will be honored. You can change boots in your car, at home or in your motel room. There are 5 trailhead porta potties but the indoor restrooms are closed as well. Hobby wheel on US2 is open for ski or snowshoe rentals if you need rentals. To purchase a season pass for next year you can mail a check or call with a credit card. Thanks for a great season.....and everyone please be safe and well! ... See MoreSee Less

Eric, I'm glad to see you are taking extra precautions to protect yourself. You especially don't need to get this bug. Heide and I will take advantage of the ski trails for the next few days and will be calling to get our season pass for next year. Stay safe.

ABR Ski Trails

Just coming in from grooming. The snow in most areas is still cold dry powder. I groomed the skate lanes to the south excluding Windy Ridge. I will be back out in the early AM to regroom the section close to ABR, I will decide if it is needed to use the bigger Pisten Bully or if I can use the John Deere Gator 835i with the 9 foot Ginzu Groomer.. Skiing was great today with the cold snow and sun out. We are open for great skiing …..but like I posted last night and which to further emphasize, this is not a “social gathering” please; get your ski boots on and head out and have fun skiing.
Our four indoor spaces are limited to 6-10 people for everyone’s safety. We don’t serve food or drink…but we want to voluntarily comply with the health standards set forth. Be well, and hope you can join us soon for awesome spring skiing!

ABR Ski Trails

I groomed all the Combo trails this morning after the and during the light snow, except Pelty and Ridge Runner and the dog Trails.

I am planning on grooming the same in the AM and maybe more…

We are open until March 22 Sunday at 5 PM when we will definitely close for the season.

With the health risks posted: we are limiting 10 people to the wax barn, 10 people to the Ski Shop, 10 people to the lunch room and rental room. and 10 people to the backroom afterhours chalet. The 66 km of ski trails appear to offer safe social distancing, Please plan your skiing for skiing and not chalet lingering. We really want to respect the risks from “the virus” but we also want to continue to supply an alternative health benefit to outside exercise.

Old Victoria Restoration

Telephone area codes were established in 1947, when Michigan was assigned three: 313, 517, and 616. By 1961, an increase in the population using telephones prompted the creation of another area code: 906. Taken from the former 616 area, the area code is used for all of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, including Isle Royale and Mackinac Island. As the boundaries of the peninsula and the area code align, the area is sometimes referred to as "The 906."

Many residents of the Upper Peninsula, often called Yoopers, recognize September 6 (9/06) as a day to celebrate their unique homeland. Happy (906) Day! #906Day #PureUP #FindYourPark #FindYourPeninsula

NOTICE: This summer, as always, visitors are welcome to enjoy Old Victoria from the outside where there is plenty of room to allow for social distancing. However, the Visitor Center and other buildings are closed to the public until further notice as we cannot meet the guidelines required to allow visitors inside.

Both of our annual events have been cancelled – Log Cabin Day that was to be held the last Sunday in June and the Old Victoria Craft Fair that was to be held on the third Sunday in August.

Why not film something and post it on YouTube such as a tour of the cabins. visitor Center and the old mine area. And include a brief history of the mining area..

Best place ever! The people and staff are amazing! It’s a bucket list item for sure. It brings you back to the lifestyle aspect of a more agrarian and nuclear family way of life. The learning and conversations are enriching, since the walks around the grounds are incredibly rewarding as characters effectively reenact and educate around relevant topics. Participants are living out past stories and interpreting through hands-on history events.

The temporary closure is a good decision for everyone’s health! #StaySafe

Neat place. We were there when the first started rebuilding. Young guy named Chris ( I think) was working on it.

Oh, darn! I always enjoyed the craft fair tremendously!

**** With the lack of visitors we should all send in some donations to keep the living history alive****

Be safe! See you next year.

Sad

I hope to get there someday.

Since I’ve found this FB page, I am determined to see Old Victoria, after I can get an effective Covid vaccine!!!
