Suttons Bay Art Festival – August 3 – 4, 2019

Suttons Bay Art Festival

This annual art fair takes place at the beautiful Suttons Bay Marina Park on the first weekend of August (August 3 & 4th, 2019, Sat. 10am – 6pm, Sun. 10am – 5pm). One hundred artists along with community groups, a community library book sale, food vendors and a children’s area make this the perfect place to spend an art-filled weekend at the beach. Join us on Sunday morning for a pancake breakfast in the park (free to exhibiting artists). This is the second year Blackbird Arts has hosted the breakfast.

A committee of volunteers oversees the selection of visiting artists and the distribution of funds generated by the event. Thousands of dollars have been contributed to local arts-related education projects. These include music and dance performances, artist in residence programs and scholarships for local art students.

Come to Suttons Bay in August, participate – as an artist, as a shopper or as a volunteer. Join in the fun!

The Suttons Bay Art Festival committee, with great disappointment to ourselves, the artists and attendees, has decided to postpone the 41st annual Suttons Bay Art Festival to August 7th and 8th, 2021.

The committee was making plans and arrangements up until now; however, it was concluded that we couldn't have the event and assure that it would be the joyful and stress free experience for the artists and attendees as it has been for the past 40 years.

With artists and attendees, some participants coming from distant locations, the ability to logistically have the flawless experience for all involved as in the past was beyond our control.

We've been keeping a close eye on Michigan. This is the right call. THANK YOU for making it now. We are in complete support. Keeping your beautiful little community safe now will go a long way to insure that 2021 will happen.❤️❤️

I'm sure this is a very difficult decision. Looking forward to next year.

Thanks for keeping our health first in mind. I hope to be back in 2021.

thanx for keeping everyone safe! respect and support your decision and will be there for sure in 2021!!

The right call. Charlevoix Waterfront, the following weekend, canceled last week.

A difficult decision, I’m sure, but the right one.

We will miss you! See you next year for sure!

Thx for handling a hard year with extra grace.

See you next year! Till then. Be well 😎

The right thing to do.

Tough one

It makes best sense this year.

Agree!

It’s so sad.

Ann Tubbs

Only hurting the artists

That is the right thing to do.

Port Oneida Fair – August 9 – 10, 2019

Join us on August 9 & 10 for the 2019 Port Oneida Fair!

Each year near the beginning of August, you can take a step back in time at the Port Oneida Fair and experience life as it was in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Imagine the life of the pioneers as you help bale hay or watch a broom-maker at work. Learn about spinning, basket weaving, soap making, butter making, candle dipping, and fur trapping. Listen as park rangers and local history experts share the area’s history. Watch as teams of oxen and horses cut, load, and haul hay and artists and craftsmen demonstrate their skills.

The fair is held at 6 of the historic farmsteads in Port Oneida. Each farm has a variety of artists, crafts, food, and activities for visitors. Click on the farm names below to see what’s happening at each farm. A shuttle bus runs between the farms on a regular schedule during the fair, so you can park your car and easily get around to the different venues.

Dechow Farm
Kelderhouse Farm
Schoolhouse
Burfiend Barn
Olsen Farm
Thoreson Farm

Sky gazing will close out the two-day fair on Saturday, August 10 at the Thoreson Farm. We will be looking at the sun from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm and at the night sky from 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm. Join park rangers and the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society (GTAS) to experience a form of recreation that has been enjoyed by many generations and continues today. GTAS members share their telescopes and knowledge while viewing Mars, Saturn, and the Perseid meteor shower. Learn about astronomy as it was in the 1900s. Remember to bring a flashlight for the walk back to your car.

Are you an artist who has created work in or of the Port Oneida area? We are always looking for submission for our Port Oneida Fair poster.

The Port Oneida Fair is presented by Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in partnership with Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear. To learn more about how you can help support the park, visit www.phsb.org.

The Northport Dog Parade is Saturday, August 8, 2020 and we are begging for a THEME! Do you have a terrific idea for one? Please email Grand Marshall Sarah Eggert (speggert@sbcglobal.net) or DM us here with a theme idea (colorful and fun with a pun, please!). Interested in helping out with the parade this year? Flea Circus (or Cirque du SoLeelanau)

Fiddler on the Woof! (Broadway theme)

In light of everyone being captive in their homes this year it should be re-cast as “The Dog Owner Parade” sponsored by the cats who will stay at home and finally get some peace!

Roxanne Werly I'll bet you could come up with a great theme and you'll have to have your babies in the parade this year 🙂

Kevin Murphy has one. "Doggy Kong." Includes all video game characters.

A Dr. Who theme would be fantastic!

Based on all of the movie watching with the family lately, I want to submit an idea: Indiana Bones: Raiders of the Lost Bark!

Disco Pawty!

Su-paw Heroes!

Mardi Paws!

Jurassic Bark 🦖 🐾

A Day in the (dog) Park.

Woofs of the loom...instead of fruit of the loom... dogs in undies... Captain Underpants

Space Dogs. Could go astronaut or alien.

A zombie theme? Armadogdon

Ford Vs Furry

Celebridogs and Pupparazzi

Dog Tired

Volks-Waggin

Jeff Anderson says Caddy Shack?

Hilary Kellogg Alpers, Sean Heline
